When you ask your four year old if you can give away a toy and he says yes, do NOT decide you'll get around to it "soon" and leave it lying around the house in a bag. What will happen is that weeks later the 4 year old will find the bag and then the toy (that he SAID could be given away, yes he did!) will suddenly seem fresh and new and be his favorite toy EVAH and you'll feel a mix of guilt and irritation as he takes it out and plays with it with much enthusiasm for 3 minutes only to then leave it to collect dust for months/years/decades afterward.
Well, maybe do it once so that you'll learn the lesson. Then the next time you ask your 4 year old if you can give a toy away and he says yes, you'll do what I did today -
grab the toy, grab the car keys and stick that hunk o' plastic in the back of the car immediately, ASAP, post-haste! Out of sight, out of mind and all that. Tomorrow it will go to the Goodwill. Whew!

Been there, done that! Finally got the habit of at least using an opaque bag for those things.
